GENERAL  BACKGROUND:

I was born, raised, and educated in the Sacramento region.  I served three years as a U.S. Army Paratrooper and was honorably discharged in 1965.  Afterward, I spent over twenty-nine years with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and retired at the rank of lieutenant.  Since 1997 I have been working as a full-time artist while continuing formal studies in art at Sierra College and at California State University, Sacramento.

ART EDUCATION:

2016, graduated from California State University, Sacramento.  I received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors – Summa Cum Laude – majoring in Studio Arts and focused in painting and drawing

2005, graduated from Sierra College, Rocklin, California.  I was awarded three Associate in Arts degrees: (1) Major in Art, with honors, (2) Major in Humanities, with honors, and (3) Major in Liberal Arts, with honors

1999, at a private school of art, The School of Light and Color, Fair Oaks, California, I studied oil painting and color pencil drawing

1999 – 2000, I studied carving terracotta brick murals and worked as a paid apprentice under professor/artist Jimmy Adamson, at his studio, Loomis, California

1982, I studied sculpture in rock carving, and bronze casting under master artist Florence Byrd at her studio in Newcastle, California

1980, I studied figure sculpture under instructor Carol Kooi at American River Junior College, Sacramento, California.

ART EXPERIENCE:

Since 1997, I have been working as a full-time artist.  I have produced paintings in watercolor, acrylic, and oils and drawings in mixed mediums.  I have created sculptures in bronze, stone, ceramic and other mediums.  I have also produced (“carved” in high and low relief) terracotta brick murals.

In 1999, I worked on a public art project as a paid assistant with a team of artists assisting Sierra College professor Jimmy Adamson, in the creation and installation of three carved brick murals installed at the new Sanger High School in Sanger, California.  The largest of the three murals measured approximately fifteen by twenty feet and was set within a concrete block wall, approximately twenty feet up from ground level.

In addition to assisting professor Adamson with his mural commissions, I have created two of my own carved brick murals: (1) terracotta brick wall mural, carved in deep relief, of a Southwestern Native American theme, approximately 4 ft. X 3 ft.  Intended for vertical wall installation, and (2) terracotta brick “patio” mural, carved in low, shallow relief, depicting salmon in a rocky creek bed, approximately 5 ft. X 10 ft., intended for flat patio surface installation.

My paintings and sculptures are held by private collectors on the west coast of the United States.
