\"chetself\"I was born, raised and educated in the Sacramento region. I have been an artist as long\u00a0as I can remember. \u00a0I recall how my parents \u2013 who were by far my greatest influences in\u00a0creating art \u2013 would have me and my two younger brothers lie on the floor with pencils,\u00a0crayons, paper and stacks of comic books. My parents would tell us to try to copy the\u00a0characters from those comic books.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another major influence on my art \u2013 outside of my family \u2013 was a grade school teacher\u00a0Ms. Patricia Lehman,who was also a beauty pageant winner of the 1951 Miss California\u00a0contest. I recall an incident where Ms. Lehman sent us home with examples of our\u00a0school work. My mother saw how my math worksheets were incomplete and how I had\u00a0stopped working math problems and drew pictures in the margins of the paper. My\u00a0mother sent me to school the next day with a note saying how she did not want to see\u00a0drawings on my math worksheets. Ms. Lehman promptly sent a written reply home with\u00a0me saying my artistic talent was something a lot of students did not have and if I was\u00a0inclined to draw instead of work math problems, I could do so.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Later, during my adult years I served three years as a U.S. Army paratrooper assigned to\u00a0a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Company.\u00a0 Subsequently, I was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant\u00a0in 1965. Afterward, I spent over twenty \u00adnine years as a deputy sheriff with the\u00a0Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and retired at the rank of lieutenant. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since January, 1997, I have been working as a full \u00adtime artist. I spend my creative time in\u00a0my home studio working on paintings in watercolors, acrylics and oils. I also do drawings\u00a0in pen and inks, pastels, charcoal and graphite. I have sculpted figurative works in stone,\u00a0cast bronze, ceramics and carved terracotta bricks. But my primary focus is on drawing\u00a0and painting.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

I would describe my style of art as representational realism.\u00a0 I also consider myself a figurative artist.\u00a0 As a result, I try to portray objects from our visual world in a manner that allows the viewer to easily comprehend what is represented. <\/span><\/p>\n

I have engaged in formal studies in art at Sierra College, Rocklin, and at\u00a0California State University, Sacramento.<\/span><\/p>\n
